lazy days

"neither will the wave which has passed be called back; nor can the hour which has gone by return." -- ovid, ars amatoria
with warm water/air the time to play on the lake brought out all the "young" people and left us old paddlers to plod along. lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer.... getting ready for a 340 mile race in october will require some serious training so guess i'll keep my head down and my paddle in the water.

last days of summer

with days cooling to fall these young adventurers made the most of a beautiful day, playing in the sand and swimming for hours. a last run off the whitebreast dock washed away the thoughts of obligations to come.
"the swallows are making them ready to fly, wheeling out on a windy sky: goodbye, summer, goodbye, goodbye. --george john whyte-melville, "goodbye, summer"

the great affair

"i travel not to go anywhere, but to go. i travel for travel's sake. the great affair is to move." -- robert louis stevenson

a beautiful late summer night w/ a waning moon allowed us a record 2.75 hr. run from elk rock to the dam and back. the lake is at permanent pool and i made my first trip through the sea cave tunnel along the cliffs. with days headed to winter taking advantage of cool nights is a luxury once again.

access 16

a warm early morning at hickory ridge brought g'son jordan and me to the newly signed water trail access 16. although needing more poles and lines removed the wilderness camp is shaping up to be a great destination for paddlers. unfortunately the access was under a foot of mud left from flood level waters and the dnr didn't heed advice on a straight in ramp. at least it is now "properly marked."
